About Us

Scott Chavis has owned and bred German Shorthair Pointers for 30 years. He has hunted behind lots of different breeds and knows that GSP’s are the superior upland bird dogs. In his opinion, ‘they aren’t bad duck dogs either’. He believes that his past dog, Magnum, even saved his life.

After a day of hunting was over, his shorthairs always seemed to put the most birds in the vest. He would jokingly tell his buddies that they needed to ‘Get A Real Dog’. This stuck, and was how we decided on our name.

As part of being a responsible breeder, Roxanne Chavis is the Rescue Coordinator for the GSP Rescue of WA. She helps find homes for GSP’s that end up in shelters or are in situations where their owners are no longer able to keep and provide for them. We believe that if we are going to bring more dogs into this world, then we need to help find homes for the ones that are already here.

She was introduced to the breed when she met Scott, and instantly fell in love with the breed. She was told by numerous people not to spoil the bird dog, but cannot help it. She thinks spoiling them, makes them want to hunt harder; they want to make you proud of them and they desire your approval.

We are members of the German Shorthair Club of WA, and participate in as many AKC Hunt Tests as we can. We like to keep our dogs hunting year round.
